Langley Tolbert’s “Color Outside the Lines” Show Opens

May 19 at Gallery 128 at Emporium Wine in Alex City, Alabama

A solo exhibition of paintings by Dadeville, AL abstract artist Langley Tolbert,entitled “Color Outside the Lines”, will be unveiled at a reception Monday, May 19, 2014, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Gallery 128 at Emporium Wine located at 128 Calhoun Street in downtown Alexander City, Ala. On display through mid-June, the exhibition showcases Tolbert’s signature use of juxtaposed color, texture and shape.

“I love the drama created in a painting by using robust color, defined shapes and rough texture set against amorphous washes and delicate tints. To me, having these unexpected juxtapositions makes a painting compelling. As children, we learn to color inside the lines. As artists, we have to think outside the lines and be able to paint that way,” said Tolbert.
